Virgin broadband location

Whenever I'm on websites which auto detect location, such as http://www.topix.net/forum/motorcycles/scooters my location is shown as Billingham , however I live in Washington. Why is this?:Yikes:

Because of how the network is setup, proxies, bad coding sometimes.

Could this contribute to speed problems?

Re: Virgin broadband location

Why would it cause speed problems? Some of these "location" sites are actually badly coded and take your proxy as your location. If you are running a non-local proxy address (because your local one is knackered) then it can often show your location as that of the proxy.
