The Virgin Media rating is based on over 800 comments going back to 2004. It will take a considerable effort to shift that!

I disagree, most comments refer to ADSL not cable. Also, the companies at the top have less than 100 votes, Virgin has 800+

I believe that ISP side of Virgin Media is excellent. If you want bad service try Tiscalli. ;)

Which is logical, bearing in mind that most ISPs are ADSL based.

Which should make the vote for Virgin more accurate (larger sample size). Not too sure how accurate it is though, as even though they have 800 votes, Virgin have at least 2 million broadband customers.

I have to admit, even though I am probably cancelling my Virgin Broadband, I have been happy with it. Apart from NTL's continued use of proxies, my service has been generally reliable, and when it hasn't, NTL have been fairly quick to sort it out.

So, I would be happy to recommend it. The only reason I am leaving is because I can get twice the speed with Be, at a lower price.

Really? Which package is that?

There needs to be some weighting to account for the number of user comments.
Vivaciti are top with only 44 votes, that is a very small sample, small enough for the company to have generated all the votes themselves. I'm not saying they did of course, but I'm wary of such a small number of votes being an accurate representation of their service.

Just looked at the Be site, and my area is covered!

However..NTL Phoned me when I was going to go to Sky and said according to their data, my BT line would only manage 5 or 6 meg ..would the same thing apply to Be? Anyone know an accurate source for Bt linespeed info?

I also have no idea how much bandwidth I use a month, so is there a way of finding out, eg a desktop meter of some kind?

Oh, and why is use of proxy a drawback, and how can you tell they are using them?

Sorry for all the questions, but I find the subject fascinating, Captain.:D

So you're telling me you believed the company that you were going to leave about how sky were going to perform?

That's logical.

And even if the 6 Meg figure is o.k. Sky/BE use ADSL2 which should increase the speed considerably

The BT online checker just reported back 4.5 Meg.

I'm 2KM from the exchange point to point.
