Can anyone recommend a PVR to connect my NTL Box to?

I'm thinking of getting a PVR standalone device. Can anyone recommend one that I can run my NTL box through. I would call it a Virgin box but it's an old Pace, and I'm not even sure if Branson had been born when it was designed and installed.

Or can someone convince me why I would be better off paying a monthly rental for a V+ box, I'm not fussed about HD at this moment in time, I just want something to record programs that I've missed on any channel, not just the ones being offered on the on demand catch up thing? And I'd much rather spend a one off sum of money rather than a monthly rental fee.

I don't want to go with Sky as I don't like the dishes and I don't want to line Murdochs pockets further.

Anyway, can anyone recommend one?

I don't have one...yet...but the V+ looks really good. Big hard disk and 3 tuners.

I have an LG7500, and I like it (only one tuner, though).

I am tempted by the V+ box, but not being an "early adopter", I will let others beta test it first, and review it after a few months.

Yeah but £15 per month. At the moment for the same as a years subscription you can get one with at least 2 tuners as a stand alone box, and I'm sure the price will only come down on those.

I'd happily pay a couple of hundred pounds to own a V+ outright rather than rent one. I've tried to get an upgrade on my old Pace before and been told I can't unless it's broken, then it may be replaced with a Pace anyway.

This is my only big problem with Cable, it's the state of their boxes. I know lots of people would rather pay a small monthly fee, rather than a single higher payment, but I'd really like to have the option, like Sky give you. I'm sure if they said today, for £300 you can own a V+ with the basic package and some HD content that they would sell out in a heartbeat. They'd also likely get back the 30M they lost to Sky, and also more people would then have this box in their home and be singing the praises of virgin.

Rant over.

Can anyone recommend a decent PVR that'll take an external signal :)

That's the reason I haven't got one yet. :)

Use a dedicated PC, I use Sage TV can't recommend it enough, the handaling of favorites is great.

Create a favorite called red Dwarf for example and it will record everythig with red dwarf in the title, or it could be a keyword in the description or an actor or type of program.

It remembers your viewing history and you can enable intelligent recording, it will then record addtion programs when nothing else is set.

The only downside is recording two things means to STBs
