Cancelling account - reclaim credit?

NTL recently sent us a letter saying they have realised they've been overcharging us and then credited our account a 'significant amount'.

Coincidently this is at a time we are about to cancel our account as we are moving to a non cable supported area.

Does anyone foresee any problems reclaiming the credit we should be aware of?

Keep the letter. If they admit in writing to having overcharged you, they have no choice but to refund whatever you are due, even if you leave. Obviously, that doesn't mean they won't come up with silly excuses for not doing so.

As long as it is a credit for overcharging, then yes they will refund you the money. (As you said the letter said this, then I can't see a problem)

FYI, if the credit was applied as 'Goodwill' e.g. by Customer Relations as a discount against future services, then no it won't be refunded
