Blue-shark remote for Telewest STB?

I have a Bluedelta Smart-eye and Smart-Blaster to transfer my remote infra red signals from my lounge to the comms room where my STB, video recorder and dvd player sit.
Now I can control my video, dvd and even a small TV located in the comms room from the lounge, but I cannot control my Telewest (PACE)STB.
Having contacted Bluedelta, I am told that the Telewest/NTL (which I guess is now Virgin media)STB box uses bursts of Infra-red and that I will need to purchase a 'Blue or Blue-shark' remote to allow transmission between the rooms.
Can anyone tell me where I can purchase such a remote.

What colour is your Pace box - black or sliver?

Black

The blue shark remote won't work with your STB (different infra-red protocol), you'll need a black shark remote :)

Okay, thank you for that timely piece of information, but where do I find a 'Black-shark'. I have dived with a black tipped reef shark but I am guessing that wouldn't be a lot of good :)

I wouldn't be sure it would work anyway.

The older Pace boxes and the black remotes use the IRDA protocol to send IR signals and having had a quick look at the Bluedelta site, I can't see anywhere that it supports it. That's probably why it doesn't work now with your existing remote. Have a look here for a bit more info and a potential solution - http://www.redremote.co.uk/

If your Pace box is a 4001 or 4010 then it uses (more standard) RC5 protocol, the blue remotes will work and you're laughing.

If you do need to get another remote, eBay is your best bet - usually you can pick one up for less than £5 inc postage, just search NTL or Telewest remote.

I have located the PACE details on the bottom of my STB
It is a 'Di4000 - T, part number 541 2400900. It uses a Telewest silver remote.
The various bits of information that you have directed me to suggest that this might be both IRDA and RC5 compatible. Is the Blueshark remote the RC5 remote that should control my STB?

The blue ones only partially work with that model. There were some functions it wouldn't do - can't remember now what they were. It's been a while. I tried them (the blue ones) on mine when I first got them a couple of years back with my Samsung (2nd box).

I picked up the both black and blue ones on ebay (someone has a habit of losing remotes LOL) and the black ones work completely fine with that.

Sounds like a fair assumption. Your box does support both and your existing remote is IRDA and therefore not receivable / transmittable by the Bluedelta boxes. The black remote will not work at all through the Bluedata box as it's IRDA.

It sounds like a blue shark remote will work but maybe not support all the functions you need but as you can probably pick one up off eBay for a few quid, it's worth a go.

Alternatively, if you have one of those "one for all" type learning remotes, you could try programming that up to emulate a blue remote - you can probably find the codes on the net if you look but you won't be able to get it to "learn" your existing remote as it won't understand the IRDA signals.

I'm not sure the Red-eye would offer you any more functionality than just getting a blue remote and trying that (maybe borrow one off a friend or neighbour in the area?)

I suppose the easiest solution is to try and get your box swapped for a newer RC5 one like a Samsung but if you ring up Customer Service and say that they will probably charge you for a call out, if they come at all. You could pretend it's got a fault but they might just swap it for the same type or even an older IRDA one - just depends what the engineer has on the van.
