Linksys WRT54GS V4, WMP54GS v1.1 + <10MB

I'm getting 10MB connected to the CM

When I connect my wireless equipment I get about 2-3MB on my second PC but the wired PC is fine.

No other PC or console or anything similar is connected

I was on 2MB and back then I was getting the full 2MB speeds on both wired and wireless PCs.

Is 2-3MB the max this Linksys equipment achieve?

I have switched channels and no other wireless receivers is in my range.

That's odd, I'm on 4Mb and I'm connected through wireless on a Linksys WRT54G router. Get pretty much full speeds here. :)

Have you ever had the connection running faster with other equipment? Wireless signals in general can be flakey - especially with the increasing density of wireless LANs.

I'm using a 54G using DD-WRT with no problems and much higher sustained rates than that. Although I think the highest useful throughput I've had running is about 7 or 8 meg.

The WRT54GS is capable of using 802.11g plus the S stands for speedbooster which is supposed to add on an extra 30% on top, so it's not the router itself that's the bottleneck.

How far away from the router is the PC? Is it on the same floor or up/downstairs from it? Also, do you live in an older house with thick walls?

But you need a GS wireless card for that and they're poor poor poor

Yeah, completely agree... although the WMP54GS is compatible, but you're right, they're not the greatest.

Thanks for the replys guys

I don't have any other wireless equipment to check if mine is faulty and like I say I can get 10MB just with the CM.

The client card is in the next room and the wall is made of plaster. If you take away the wall the backs of the monitors will be facing each other.

OK, done a few speed tests

For example www.btopenworld.com/speedtest
I click on the large file, first time I get about 90kb then cancel and re-download and I do this for about 5 times I get 1700-3000kb/s on my final attempt.

This is another speed test after a few attempts

Thu, 08 Feb 2007 00:58:27 GMT

1st 512K took 7250 ms = 70.6 KB/sec, approx 582 Kbps, 0.57 Mbps
2nd 512K took 7094 ms = 72.2 KB/sec, approx 595 Kbps, 0.58 Mbps
3rd 512K took 14125 ms = 36.2 KB/sec, approx 298 Kbps, 0.29 Mbps
4th 512K took 94 ms = 5446.8 KB/sec, approx 44882 Kbps, 43.83 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 11589 Kbps, 11.32 Mbps
