Moving to Be...
Yep. After threatening to a couple of times, I am about to partially jump ship from NTL.
I am generally happy with NTL, but Be have (in the last couple of weeks) enabled my exchange, so, soon, I should have a 24 meg connection for £10 a month less than NTL. Indeed, I will be staying with NTL for DTV. And, yes, I have a BT line, so Line rental *isn't* a consideration. |
Re: Moving to Be...
Well done.
Let us know how you get on, please. |
Re: Moving to Be...
Not good so far.. BT have flagged a problem on the line, and will not allow the upgrade until it is sorted. Due to the DPA, they cannot discuss the specifics of the problem with Be, so I will need to contact them. I can't ATM, as I am at work, and don't have the account details.. :(

However, one thing that's often said here is that ADSL is sensitive to line length. Line length shouldn't be a problem, as I virtually do live on top of the exchange (around about 100 Metres away as the crow flies, and apparently not much more than that in line length). |

Re: Moving to Be...
Well, to update everyone. I *eventually* found out the problem.
Basically, Be emailed to tell me to contact BT. So. I did. BT said there was a problem, but I would need to contact Be as their wholesale division does not deal with consumers. So, I contacted Be. After a short discussion, the support person put me through to provisioning. They explained what they had been told (the line was registered as hardwired, not socketed), and said I would need to contact BT retail. Phoned BT retail, who said they would amend their records. I then phoned Be who said they would try again and notify me. Hopefully, it'll all go well. I have to admit, so far, Be seem far more efficient than BT. |

Although my personal experience has shown that both the Wholesale ADSL and PSTN side of things are pretty bad, the Wholesale private CCT division is really quite good!! |
Re: Moving to Be...
Well, got my Be Box (modem). Basically a re-badged Thomson Speedtouch ADSL modem/router.
Haven't got around to sorting out the wiring yet (the ADSL modem is nowhere near my old linksys and my old linksys only has Ethernet and power cables near it), so am using Wireless. Anyhow, just run a couple of speed tests, and seem to be getting around 19Mbps, so I'm happy. |
