Converting Lotus Amipro docs on floppy disc
I have loads of old 3.5 inch floppies with old Lotus AmiPro format wordprocessed documents on them. Is there any easy way of getting these onto a new PC? I know I can use an external floppy drive but what about converting the data to a newer WP format?
Cheers. |
Re: Converting Lotus Amipro docs on floppy disc
Lotus ought to be able to just read the AmiPro format just like Word can read ancient Word formats with no problem (they just have less features) can you not do this?

Re: Converting Lotus Amipro docs on floppy disc
Word used to read SAM files, but not Word 2000 and later.
Apparently StarOffice has an Amipro filter but that is a non free product. If you have a linux box, KOffice has a 'simple' Amipro filter. |

Re: Converting Lotus Amipro docs on floppy disc
Cheers guys - sorry I didn't make myself clear. I don't have access to Lotus software anymore but still have the old discs in that format and would like to be able to read them if I need to at some point.
Co-incidentally I only have StarOffice loaded on this PC - where would I find the amipro 'filter'??? Ta for the other tips guys BTW. :tu: |
Re: Converting Lotus Amipro docs on floppy disc
Just download the AmiPro converter for Word. You can get it here.
Extract the CNV files to the folder \Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\TextConv. Merge the registry patches with your registry (right click the patch in Windows Explorer and select Merge). Restart Word to make the filters available. |
Re: Converting Lotus Amipro docs on floppy disc
OK guys - sorted. Have found Amipro 1-3.1 listed in the 'open files of format.......'menu in Star Office. So I should be able to open/read the files OK and save them in Word (or other formats) if I need to. That's all I wanted.
Thanks for the reply Nikesh - if only I knew enough to understand what you are talking about :) Cheers as always everyone!!!!! |
