TVDRIVE in RG12...
 

Hi all,

first question, does anyone know when the TVDrive (or V+ ) will be available in the RG12 area.

On a second point, I have a plasma TV that is HD Ready! I connect my Xbox 360 to 'Component' I think. Is that the same as HDMI or something different?

Would I have to disconnect my Xbox 360 from the TV when connecting the TVDRIVE?

I have a Panasanic Viera 37".

I am new to this forum, but I am pretty sure I know the answer to your question.

I too have ordered my TV Drive or V+ or whatever they want to call it. I too have a Xbox 360 set to my Samsung HDTV through componant cable. I am aware from this forum that you connect your TV Drive through a HDMI cable. Which should not effect the Xbox at all.

If your TV has a HDMI slot in it then you are laughing. If not then you will have to look to connect it in some other way using converters or something. I also have a Philips HDTV which has a DVI-I intergrated interface this I can use for HDMI through a converter but it converts the signal to anologue i think??

Ok dim question number 2 then... When I look at the back of my Plasma TV, what does the connector look like.. I am a typical male and didn't read the manual when I got the TV, so I think the manual has disapeared...

It did say that it was HD ready, does that mean it should have an HDMI port?

Also the TV is only about 8 months old

Some HD Ready TV's have them, some don't!!! Great eh!!

It is a small port slightly larger than a USB slot. Similar height. Go to the panasonic website and look up the spec of your TV. It should tell you there.

The problem was that a lot of the early HD ready TV's just had the screens and the companies were arguing about what connection to use.

The early normal HD connection was DVI. But this seemsto have been phased out and the general worlwide concensous is that HDMI will become the market standard for HD signal. The new PS3 will be on HDMI. I think that Sony/Samsung were the leaders in this type of connection.

I have seen pictures of the back of the TV Drive box and it has Component connections so you might be able to use these??!!?? But then I am not sure what you will do with the Xbox.

It's available now! Call Customer Services on 150 from an ntl phone line to book an installation. :)

Component is different to HDMI. Compononent usually involves five cables - three for the Video (Y, Pb, Pr or Y, Cb, Cr) and two for audio (Left and Right). HDMI is just one cable which includes all the audio and video information and some more besides!

You would get a better picture from your xbox if you use the VGA cable, most plasma/lcd Tv's have this connection. It looks great, you just need to set the resolutio in the dashboard to the highest your TV accepts and your done.

Yeah the VGA option is proabably your best option at this stage. But only get the official Xbox microsoft VGA cable as the others are inferior and have had reported problems.

I got my DVI from them and it works a treat on my older generation HD LCD. They can answer any questions you might have if you give them the model of your TV and tell them what you want to do.

mg, just to let you know. If your Philips TV has a DVI-I socket, it is capable of receiving a digital signal. If you buy a HDMI to DVI cable, rather than using a converter, then it will give your TV a purely digital signal, exactly the same as you would get through HDMI to HDMI.

Yeah I know thanks. But we were just talking about setting up the TV Drive without a HDMI slot and intergrating with Xbox 360.

The Intergrated DVI-I will do both digital and a analogue signal. But a HDMI converter would change it to analogue? So if it was a straight HDMI to DVI cable would that then make the transfer digital?

Damn, I have found the manual, it only has 3 SCART connectors, Component video, no HDMI or VGA..... perhaps I bought the wrong Plasma TV ... :-(

So do you reckon it's worth getting the TV-Drive now.... There is no way the missus is gonna allow me to buy a new TV as this one was £1200....
