Re: How do you connect NTL250 to a wireless router ?
I am having major problems connecting wirelessly from my Windows 98 PC to my NTL modem.
I have an NTL 250 modem and this connected to my PC gives me internet. I then purchased a Belkin G Cable Wireless Router and followed the on screen instructions to connect it to my modem with wireless set with 128 bit WEP encryption. It installed successfully. If I connect an ethernet cable to my wireless router I still get internet - so far so good. I then installed the Belkin G USB Wireless Adapter to my PC as per on screen instructions. After rebooting the Wireless Monitor says that it can find my Wireless Router so I select it and click Connect. It asks me to set up a profile so I set up 128 bit Open Access encryption and connect. The Wireless Monitor tells me that I have connected successfully to my Wireless Router but not to the internet  Connecting an ethernet cable from PC to wireless router again works giving me internet. I can web browse the router using ip address 192.168.2.1 while the cable is plugged in but can not if the cable is unplugged. Where am I going wrong? |

:welcome: to Cable Forum :tu:
I've split your post from the previous thread. You've probably got specific issues. I'm not sure if you are using the right encryption settings on the USB. If you have 128 bit WEP on the router, you need that, not open access on the USB  To get internet access, you need to ensure that the wireless is allowing the use of the router DNS as a gateway. You might need to look in the network settings on the computer to check that. Also check nothing silly like a firewall is getting in your way. |

Re: How do you connect NTL250 to a Belkin wireless router ?
Update:
I checked the settings for all the devices on my PC last night and found something very odd indeed.... Using winipcfg, my ethernet card clearly shows the ip address, def gateway and dns servers but the wireless usb adapter only shows the ip address and def gateway - the dns servers are blank. obv this is the reason why i cant connect to t'net but how can i force the usb adapter to popualte with the dns settings? i've tried using static ip address, def gateway and dns servers but this then stops the usb adapter from talking to the wireless router. help? |
Re: How do you connect NTL250 to a Belkin wireless router ?
dns addresses are 194.168.4.100 and 194.168.8.100, you will need to specify the ip, the default gateway and subnet mask should then auto populate, then add the dns, should be under the properties of the tcp/ip in the properties of your network adaptor.
Hope that this helps. |
Re: How do you connect NTL250 to a Belkin wireless router ?
thanks for this. i knew the dns settings for ntl anyway :D even adding the dns servers did not work (see my last post). I configured my new PC last night and after resetting my NTL modem and Belkin Router found that I had a wireless connection yayyyy \o/
I guess the problem was with my old PC which was only running Win 98  |
