Would windows vista work on my laptop?
448 MB RAM
1.8ghz processer What do people think? Thanks |
Re: Would windows vista work on my laptop?
No - not enough ram.
Although I have it working on my laptop with 512mb ram it's pretty slow. And my laptop is a 2.66ghz one. I think the minimum is 512 - and I'd say at least 1gb is better - but 2gb would be a lot better. p.s. I'm assuming you've taken off a chunk of ram for shared gfx? |
Re: Would windows vista work on my laptop?
cant recommend it....it will run but slower then a snail.
or even slower then XP on a P2 233mhz with 512 mb ram. so no I wouldnt do it...running it on my work machine which is a P4 2.8 ghz with 512mb ram and it isnt that fast on that even and that has its own dedicated graph card. |

The advantages of buying a new Lappy. |
Re: Would windows vista work on my laptop?
It'll run, but it will be as slow as treacle. You'll need at least 1Gig and perhaps 2Gig of RAM and a decent graphic card if you want to see the cool Aero theme.

You can run an upgrade advisor from Microsoft from here:

And really, vista doesnt exactly run great ok on 1gig, it runs 'acceptable', you need 2gb+ to get any good speed out of vista. But it's still not as fast as xp (only feels like it sometimes with some things being rendered by the gpu) |

Re: Would windows vista work on my laptop?
Nah, IMHO, to do it justice, run aero, security s/w and have spare for other apps, I'd be looking around the 2.8 GHz, gig of RAM, and a standalone gfx card (AGP or PCI-E) at Nvidia 6200+ level or ATI equivalent with 256 MB on-card RAM.
Despite what upgrade advisor or MS say - after all, you can run XP on a Pentium MMX 233 with 64 MB RAM but it's not pretty! |
