Slow Network

Ok, my brother in law and me have 2 computers in the same room netowrked with normal cable, I have setup shared folders so we can both use files off both pc's. Was having no problems with this setup until yesterday when he had to format, now whenever I try to read, or save files onto his pc it is very very slow, however when he tries to read and write files to my pc it goes very quickly.

I have next to no experience with networks so dunno what the problem is, both pc's are running XP SP2.

Edit - Sorry posted in wrong forum, just seen networking forum.

Re: Slow Network

Are you using a router or a crossover cable?

What spec PC's? Old/New?

Is one newer than the other.

Any number of things could casue problems, software or hardware.

Are you using a firewall?

Router

Both PC's are relatively new

Only using windows firewall, both are configured to allow printer and file sharing.

Have a bigger problem now though, cannot see any shared folders that are located on the other pc, only the ones that are located on mine. :(

If was ok before reinstall, must be some settings.

Have you rerun the network wizard on both PC's?

Can you bothe access the internet ok?
