?? Ethernet Crossover or Patch Cable
Hello
I have a Desktop pc and a Laptop pc. I also have ntl Broadband Cable 2mg, connected by Ethernet connection. I sometimes like to connect my laptop to the internet, usually but not often enough, for wireless connection, I am somewhat confused by whether I should need a crosover or patch Ethernet cable. I would really appreciate advice. Thanks for any advice/help Church Mouse. |
Re: ?? Ethernet Crossover or Patch Cable
use the same cable that is in your desktop?
its a patch cable, you only need a cross over if you were connecting the laptop direct to the destop pc to share the modem |
Re: ?? Ethernet Crossover or Patch Cable
Why would you want a cable for a wireless connection?

Yes, I do not have a wireless connection.

Re: ?? Ethernet Crossover or Patch Cable
Do you only want to use one machine at a time? if your just going to swap leads and use the modem individually you need a straight patch cable if you want to link the laptop and computer and set up internet sharing you need crossover

Re: ?? Ethernet Crossover or Patch Cable
Thanks Zinglebarb
I would mostly use one machine at a time, but tonight a family member said that they may also wish to use the internet at the same time as I do. If I would need a crossover cable, is this just a single cable and is it easy to set up?? Thank you for your advice/help Church Mouse |
Re: ?? Ethernet Crossover or Patch Cable
you just run network connection wizard and click the settings of ICS .Yes it is a single cable
detailed instructions for manual set up here http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/ics_xp Problem is if you only have 1 ethernet port on the tower you will have to connect the modem to USB |
