Core 2 Duo running flat out

Morning all,

Hope somebody can help out. I have a 1.8 core 2 duo processor and last night it started to run flat out for no reason.
I get the message that the system resources running low and I should shut down some programs. This problem is none are open, it's just idleing on the desktop. I have 1 GB and a 320 HD which has 250 spare. The model is an Advent T9307.

Any Idea's. Thanks in advance

Presumably reboooting the PC made no difference? Have you done a recent antivirus and spyware scan?

There must be something running - have a look in the task manager (ctrl-alt-delete), under processes. That should show what is using the CPU.

Click the CPU tab in the processes window that pops up to show the programs which use the highest CPU first.

Yes i've tried rebooting with no luck. As for the task manager I'll have to wait till I get home tonight as I'm at work.
Thank's for the input. :)

So who here is betting on it being the dreaded svchost.exe bug?

Hi guy's,

Update for you all. Went home and ran virus scan's aplenty and spyware. Good news is PC is now running sweet back to normal. I've also turned off auto updates and will download normaly as this seemed a popular way to stop the PC over working on some post's.

Thanks for all the help.
