Netgear WGT624
Anyone have this? If so could you lend me your views as I quite fancy this one out of all the ones I have seen. I have never had a wireless router before, am connected by NTL with ethernet connection and want a very strong connection so that I'll be able to connect about 30ft away. Any advice anyone?

Re: Netgear WGT624
Wouldn't want to use homeplugs as I need to connect a laptop, PC and my Wii to it, and would definitely need wireless. The Wii is the one that is probably about 30 ft (maybe a bit less) as the Wii and where I would connect the router are one opposite corners of the house and not on the same level. At the moment I'm having to drag this ridiculously long ethernet cable around the houes if I want to connect to any of these.

Re: Netgear WGT624
Wouldn't I still be using cables then to connect to the actual laptop? Also the Wii only has wireless capabilities so I kinda do need a wireless one.

Re: Netgear WGT624
But I'd like to be able to just have the laptop on me without any plugs connecting into it so wouldn't that be pointless getting homeplugs if I don't want any wires at all?

Re: Netgear WGT624
I just don't like the idea of still having to plug more than one thing in there. I can do that now, it's not really about the cables everywhere, it's just that I want my Wii to go online asap, and whilst doing that I could kill two birds with one stone and get my Pc and laptop wireless.
So does anyone actually have any opinions on this Netgear product because I've been reading reviews, and it looks like it's an upgraded version of the reccommended router on this site. Any advice about this router please? |
Re: Netgear WGT624
There are some reviews here but I chose a Linksys WRT54GS

Re: Netgear WGT624
I am on Telewest but people here are complaining about incompatibility with ntl but that may be down to a bad batch
I don't have problems but it does seem to lose connection if I don't use it for a while (if I turn my monitor off and then **** off somewhere and then come back to see it's lost connection. And all I do is restart the PC). Distance - I use a WMP54GS client card which is in the next room and I get about somedays 11.0Mbps, 18.0Mbps, 36.0Mbps and 54.0Mbps (this is what it is mainly) The low Mbps must be down to interference or something from other routers in the area. I can see about 7 in my search. Try one of next generation one from Netgear - DG834N, it has good review and highly recommended. |
Re: Netgear WGT624
Is there a DG834N version that is able to connect to an ethernet cable as this seems to be ADSL, and althlough I have limited knowledge, wouldn't that not work with NTL cable internet?

Sorry Ruch, it was half 3 in the morning when I typed that, my mistake.
You want the Netgear WNR854T |
Re: Netgear WGT624
router models is a tricky business and wireless can be a headache.
range is affected by a lot of things - in my small house i have to use 2 wireless points networked together to get a signal all over. cant wait until next year when the wireless N is finished. |
