keep an eye out

I got a tip from a mate at work. Cheap XP Pro. Go look at softwareoutlet.com
I was told.

There was XP Pro sp2 $79.99!!!!! With another CD for $5.99 & postage it came to $94.93. For us in the UK an approximation is just to halve the numbers.

The CD's are here, the XP CD is a holographic M$ one, not an oem type. The CD comes with a product key of course but no pretty box.

It just overwrote my iffy copy with a real copy which then registered itself.

So keep your eyes open, i'm not the only person to get a reasonably priced
OS.

:eeek:

And the problem might be that they are selling copies of xp with a bulk/corporate licence, which is all well and good until they hit the magic number, at which point genuine advantage (or whatever it's called) starts telling everyone they have a non legit copy.

This has happened to several people I know that have got cheap copies

Rarely is there such a thing as a free lunch. I think caution is to be advised here.

Yes I do agree, TANSTAAFL, however my work mates copy is OK and mine had to pass the bloody genuine advantage when I updated & installed IE7.

Perhaps they have a bad rep, I did not check, I took a gamble and it seemed to pay off.

I ordered just before Xmas, got an out of stock message, then a dispatch message early Jan. In 4 or 5 days it came through the letter box.

Anything odd happens I will keep you all informed.

The only thing I had to do was to reinstall the chipset drivers for the video card so I could then install the monitor driver. Without them it ran in XP default mode in VGA, scrolling was wierdly slow,, but it worked.
