Security on folders XP

Hi all

There are a number of users(administrators) on this PC. Each one uses a password to log on.

Each one has their own folders for music / pictures / documents etc.

When you open Windows Explorer you can see the drives and each person user’s folder. If you click on it..........it states assess denied (understandable). (However when you go to the C drive icon you can drill down C drive/users documents/User and then see and open some of the individuals folders. How can this happen ???

Any ideas

Thanks

Mike

You will need to make the folders private to the individual user. Alternatively, set the correct permissions on each root folder using the NTFS level security and deny rights / exclude users who should not be able to view it. Remember that by default Administrators can see and do everything on any machine they are set as an Administrator on.

Is this the way to did it............

Select the folder you wish to encrypt.
Right-click the folder and click Properties.
Click the Sharing tab.
Check the box Make this folder private
Click Apply and then Ok.

However are you suggesting other administrators would still be able to view them ?

thanks

With encryption, I am not sure. However, otherwise they will either be able to view the files, or they will be able to undo your permission changes and set their own permissions.

Is it XP Home or XP Pro?

Are you using FAT or NTFS formatting?

Using encryption is a bit over the top, and if you loose the key you loose access to the data.
