WIFI Camera and port opening
Hello,
I have just bought a D-Link security camera that allows me to do security surveillance over the internet. However to do this I have to open ports 80 5001,5002 and 5003. Is there a security risk in doing this? |
Re: WIFI Camera and port opening
well that is a good question.
i would like to reply with a simple "yes". but i have a spare min so will prattle on!. its a security risk to be on the internet anyway. opening port 80 (or any port) never helps. if someone wanted to hack u etc they would regardless of your security measures. i suggest u forward the ports and go for it dont worry all will be fine :) i have run a webcame from my home at times and made it available via a webserver all seemed fine. |
Re: WIFI Camera and port opening
Thanks SOS
The fact is I trust nothing! I have several PCs behind my router each with an individual firewall so they should not themselves be easily hacked. Another Q: Can you place these cameras in the DMZ. Are there any risks in doing that? |
Re: WIFI Camera and port opening
i expect they can (anything off the router can be - the router dosnt care it just wants an ip address of the device u want in the DMZ)
anything in a DMZ is up for grabs by anyone... can u change what ports it works off? |
