Hi all hope you lot can help ;)

Since xmas we have been trying to access xbox live and failing on updates not installing. So far ive narrowed it down to fire wall settings stopping the updates.

How are you connecting? I guess through a router, it's the settings on the router you need to look at not the cable modem.

But you can see the settings in the cable modem by surfing to :

http://192.168.100.1
username root
password root

:welcome: to the forum.

This page http://192.168.100.1/ should give you the modem's settings.

Username and password are "root"

Edit: Beaten to it.

Cheers for the quick reply peeps but that allowed me to view the settings but not to change anything if its possible that is. Is there anyway of disabling the firewall/security for a short while??? Is this a good idea??

Bit of techno newbie :D

The modem doesn't have a firewall. There is nothing to change.

What model ntl modem is it?

How is your Xbox connected to the modem?

- Do you connect it directly?

- Do you connect it to via a PC using ICS (Internet Connection Sharing)?

- Do you use a router?

What are the connection settings?

Have you had problems with the connection on the PC, or just the Xbox?

Re: Newbie here: Modem problems

Model number 08004EU i think

Currently connected to the xbox through a wireless router so first of all checked the settings etc and thier all fine now so then tried connecting the modem directly to the xbox with no luck (same update failures etc). This is what led me to believe it may be a modem problem because the router checks out and even when hard wired the problem is the same and theres no problems with internet on the pc.

Errmm what connection settings should i have and where can i check them as i cant remember???

Again cheers for help ;)

Re: Newbie here: Modem problems

did you reboot the modem before you connected directly? Does your router allow setting up a DMZ?

Re: Newbie here: Modem problems

Woohoo the update has now worked now after connecting it directly to the xbox and rebooting silly me.

Connected it back to the router and tried it again and it fails on the network settings - xbox live step. So now it has to be the router itself.

What settings do i need to change??

1. MTU needs to be about 1400 i beleive
2. NAT is open
3. DMZ??? not sure about this or what it is?

and so on.......

Oh and router is a BT voyager 1500

Re: Newbie here: Modem problems

basically if you set the ip that your xbox uses(internal) and activate dmz for that ip there is no firewall or blocked ports to that ip

Re: Newbie here: Modem problems [xbox live, router]

Ive somehow managed to mess up the wireless between the xbox and the router itself now  Its all ready to go now i just need to change the settings for the ports etc. Is threre any reason why the xbox hasn't got an ip address anymore?? Entered it manually but dont actually know what to enter into the other fields??

Think i need;

IP address
Subnet mask
Gateway
Primary dns server

Help :(

This guide to getting a voyager 1500 working with a 360 might help.
If you are using the official wireless adapter, the XBOX should be set to get an automatic IP address, afaik.
