Router setup question

Hi, I have a Linksys WAG54GS and my question is this....

How do I set it up so that it blocks any p2p activity?

We are synced with the exchange at over 4mb but as 1 housemate hammers bitlord 24/7 it makes it unusable for the rest of us...

Answers on a postcard PLEASE!!!

Re: Router setup question

If its anything like the WRT54G, there is an access restrictions page on the admin interface. You can add a port range to block at certain times.

It looks like BitLord chooses a random port at install time!
Might need to do some detective work to find it!
In the Administration section of the Linksys pages, you can enable outgoing logging. After a few minutes this will show the port he is using. it will be above 1024.

Cheers chap, will get my pipe and deer stalker out!

Edit - Not on this one it does not... :( the log does not seem to have any outgoing stuff....

Any other ideas?

(other than going down there and beating him? Joke!!!)

Does Bitlord need UPNP running to get past the router?

No idea but I can easily disable that....

Exactly lol. If not just block the offending users IP from the router till he learns to behave.

What does the UPnP Auto Port Mapping mean?
To get the best speed possible, BitLord needs a public listening port as other p2p applications do. But if you are behind a DSL router or use Windows Internet Connection Sharing (ICS), you need to manually configure a port mapping (a port forwarding from gateway/router to your computer). This is usually quite a boring task. BitLord takes advantage of the UPnP technology as MSN Messenger does, so it will automatically configure the port mapping for you as soon as the download task begins. Please note that UPnP is only supported in Windows XP or above, and your hardware router must support UPnP and have it enabled. By default, BitLord won't release the portmapping when exiting. You may configure it in Options -> Advanced -> Connections Dialogues.
Oh deary me.... it uses UPnP ;)

Is he connecting wirelessly? Block his IP from the router until he complains ;)

i would do if it was my broadband we were sharing, however the landlord is providing... It's just not fair for one to whore the whole connection!!!

Thats why i only want to block p2p during peak hours.

Re: Router setup question

Under 'Application & Gaming', you can enable QoS (quality of service).
So, you could assign his MAC address as 'low priority' and thereby give everyone else priority when they need it.
