New Rig & DCOM Errors
Hi all,
Any ideas, running a new rig here. AMD athlon 5000 64 dual core with windows xp pro. Keep getting DCOM error and the system either locks up completely or restarts. Intermittently but happening more frequently now. Cheers. |
Re: New Rig & DCOM Errors
Without being more precise in the error there's not a lot we can do. I think the best remedy considering it's brand new and all would be to reinstall Windows.

Re: New Rig & DCOM Errors
stop the restart by going system advanced start up and recovery and untick auto restart and give us the error code.
Also look at event viewer (right click my comp select manage then event viewer) look at system and application to see if there is any obvious cause of the reboot ---------- Post added at 10:27 ---------- Previous post was at 10:27 ---------- Quote:
DCOM errors are not unusual on my machine (and in fact most machines that have been on my network ;))but im not getting lock ups or anything else |

Cheers Zing, have disabled the auto restart as suggested and not had a single reboot since and their appears to be no entries for dcom errors in the application log. Have attached the last one incase it means anything more specific to those in the know. Cheers |
Re: New Rig & DCOM Errors
Update, after a few clear days the DCOM errors are back more frequently and even with the restart option deactivated the system is restarting and all that shows in event viewer is DCOM error and if doesnt restart the pc just locks up.
Any further ideas please. Cheers |
Re: New Rig & DCOM Errors
I dont think that error is the problem as I have these warnings. My gut is saying psu as the reboots may well be caused by this. System stops always give a blue screen if you set it not to reboot meaning the error is not likely to be software.

Re: New Rig & DCOM Errors
What make and wattage is the PSU?
Using speedfan, take the CPU temp and also the voltages. You might want to run Memtest86+ and Prime95 as well. |
Re: New Rig & DCOM Errors
Hi Carlingman,
I find this a useful link when it comes to knowing what power supply you need to run your rig; http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculator.jsp Input your CPU, GFX Card, Sound Card, Optical drives, Hard drives and memory and it will give you an idea of what you need to run your setup as a minimum. I agree with the all knowing Zing:D, it sounds like an underated PSU causing the problem. Give it a whirl, nothing to lose really |

Re: New Rig & DCOM Errors
Update 2, well after following most of the advice the dcom errors seem to have stopped and am no longer getting lock ups or restarts.
Am still getting some minor hiccups i.e. can be browsing then all of sudden page cannot be displayed and i cannot disconnect my adsl connections from the sys tray icon by right clicking and choosing disconnect. Also when this happens i am unable to access the task manager to see what is happening as i get a windows application error saying the application failed to initialise properly (oxc0000017)click on ok to terminate the application. Usually a restart cures the problem and then can browse etc for hours without any further problems. Event viewer is showing nothing unusual and i am getting more and more convinced this is down to the Bullguard firewall that comes shipped with mesh computers unless anyone has any other ideas. ;) |

Have waived the recovery cd at the PC a few times but have decided to email mesh for one last shot as there is a disclaimer on the disk saying not to be used unless instructed by mesh tech support or warranty may be invalidated. :) |
