Wireless Router
 

Can anyone recommend a fast Wireless router, I currently have an 80211.b Netgear MR814 and have the 10Mb connection, but I never seem to reach this speed with this router.

Any advice welcome.

You are unlikely to get the full rated speed from any wireless, simply due to some slight signal losses. However the 802.11b standard is so close to the 10meg broadband speeds that things will be running capacity on your wireless. Additionally the older 802.11b routers didn't have a 100 speed WAN port which also created a bottleneck.

As a minimum you need an 802.11g standard router - the linksys WRT54G has been popular, although the emerging "n" standard routers may be worth a look.

Why not make use of the mains wiring? Your computer needs to be near an electric socket anyway. Besides, you'll have a better signal and fewer headaches with security. Have a look at http://www.solwise.co.uk/net-powerline.htm
