Actiontec cable/dsl router

I have only one laptop, (no desktop) and currently connect through the set top box in my lounge. I want to use the laptop in another room. Can I connect using the router if I only have the laptop?
When I have tried I still have the wires and that's no improvement on what I already have.
Can i attach the router to the stb and connect wirelessly? Is that a stupid question?
Help!

I've never used an Actiontec router, but, if it's wireless, then you should easily be able to use the laptop wirelessly. It won't matter whether you have any other PCs or not, you can still use a router even if you only have one computer. Just connect the router to the STB (& reboot both), & set up the wireless for the laptop (& don't forget to set-up wireless security! at least WEP, preferably WPA though).
