How do i share files & Internet via ethernet?

right, i've got meself a crossover cable, connected it to both computers & after a short while it just says "This connection has limited or no connectivity".

info: The master computer gets its internet via a usb modem.

Is there something i have to do before connecting the xover cable?
If someone could get/write a step by step guide or something, it'd be really helpful.

thanks!

You need to run the Internet Connection Sharing Wizard (ICS).

Never had to do that so not quite sure where it is hidden in the Windoze files. Perhaps check under Start menu > Accessories > Communications?

Presumably you enabled print and file sharing on both PCs.

Are both PC in th same workgroup? (right click my compueter properties)

Have you actually shared any folders on one PC or the other?

'Enabling print & file sharing' allows it to happen, but you still need to share individual folders (right click, sharing or properties) as Rob says

a second computer is connected to the master computer via an ethernet cable.

On the master computer, I have enabled file and printer sharing on the usb modem and the ethernet connection which goes to the second computer.
On the second computer, i have enabled file and printer sharing for the ethernet connection.

both are in workgroup A.
On both computers, I have right clicked on the shared video folder and selected the "share this folder with other people on this network" (both folders now have a hand under it)

the only problem i have is looking @ the shared folder of one computer from the other.....
any ideas how to?

Have you got any firewall software running such as Zonealarm? That might be blocking connections?

Can't hurt to go control panel>network set up wizard on both machines
will prolly require a reboot if i remember correctly

I have norton internet security and norton antivirus an the standard windows firewall....
norton did say, the instant i connected the two computers, do you want to allow so and so to connect...(on the master computer) i clicked on yes for everything...
it didn't say anything on the second computer (same norton and windows stuff installed on that)

---------- Post added at 00:21 ---------- Previous post was at 00:14 ----------

if it were to work, where would i be able to see the files of the second computer from the master computer?
would it be: My Network Places> &then, under network tasks, click on view worgroup computers?
