Can't ping.. um.. ntl!
*sigh*
Typical. Halfway through a large update on my website, and the proxy dies on me, so I spend ten minutes trying a bunch of proxies and none of them seem to work. Which I thought was a bit weird. So I tried pinging a proxy, instead. Nothing. Then I pinged another, and another, and another. Then I tried going to the NTL Service Status page. Server not found. Tried pinging it.. Nothing there either. It's as though NTL's entire network is dead. Except that I'm still here, and am able to connect without a proxy! There's been quite a lot of weird Proxy stuff lately. Does anyone know why this one's happening? --- *typical* --- By the time I'd finished writing this post, the proxies were all up and running again. As was NTL's site, and everything else.. They were dead for about 10 minutes, from around about 9:30am, Sunday Morning. Very peculiar. |
Re: Can't ping.. um.. ntl!
you could try manually assigning a different DNS server when this happens maybe? Ive often used UKonlines or Tiscali a quick google will find you some
:welcome: to the forum also :) |

Hi!
Join Date : Nov 2004 :) I registered a long long time ago, but quite honestly, I've been pretty much trouble free, so never felt the need to moan! I've never tried changing my DNS before. Is there a list of usables, somewhere? *bothers to look* Yes there is.. Cool. Might try that sometime. Thanks :) |
Re: Can't ping.. um.. ntl!
For the record..
I just had the exact same issue, again. About 10-15 mins of no "NTL" connecting. Rather odd, methinks. |
Re: Can't ping.. um.. ntl!
I use treewalk for my DNS now - you just install it on your PC and point your computer/router at it and away it goes. Never had it fail on me unlike my ISP's DNS servers which were (when I used them) up and down like a brides nighty!
