Password help
I wonder if you guys could help before I put my fist through this computer lol. I really can't face another conversation with India.
All I want to do is have my NTL account password the same as my NTL e mail password. The story goes like this. I forgot what my password for my account and e mail was, so called up India and they said "yes sir it's S********2." After a bit of poking about on NTL's site I found out how to change my e mail password and changed it to G********7 Obviously the asterixs are characters really. Now when I access my NTL account by clicking on the green tick on the NTL homepage, the one where it says "Sign In" underneath, it will only accept the old password S********2. How do I change that to G********7 so the two match up? Once I input my e mail addy and S********2 the green tick becomes "Your Account" and a message next to it says Welcome Alan and I then click on the email icon. It takes forever to load and when it finally does, it goes to a second sign in screen. Inputting either my old or new password simply will not work here. I have to click on the bit that says "If you are a new customer to ntl, activated in the last 24 hours you may have difficulty signing into ntlworld. Click here to access your email." I've been with NTL for years and this e mail address all that time!!!! When I hit "Click here", it is my new password ie G********7 that is accepted but when I finally do get into my mail, if I then click on the link to return to NTL's homepage, I find myself logged out of everything!!! Three questions I suppose, firstly how do I change the old password that lets me go to things such as "Manage your account" to make it the same as the one that lets me get at my e mails? What page do I have to access to make the change? Secondly, am I missing something really obvious here? Thirdly, is NTL's webmail always so bloody awful to use? I wanted to give Thunderbird a try but Hotmail isn't compatible and neither is Yahoo I believe, unless you pay for their premium service, so I thought I'd try it with NTL's e mail. If it is always this much fuss, perhaps I shouldn't bother. By the way, my PC has no viruses or spyware and my Hotmail, G Mail and Yahoo addys all work fine. Please, please save me from India! Regards Alan |
Re: Password help
Have you tried deleting your browser cache? Some stored cookies may be holding username and password information.
Note: This will delete any saved passwords for any website you have visited, so MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR USERNAMES & PASSWORDS ARE BEFORE CONTINUING!! Which browser are you using? For Internet Explorer choose Tools>Internet Options>Delete Cookies and also Delete Files (tick the box too) For Firefox choose Tools>Options>Privacy>Clear Now and tick everything. To be on the safe side - after clearing the cache I shut down the browser and restart. Hope this helps. |
Re: Password help
Thanks Feenix, I tried that but it didn't work. Is there anything else I could try?

Re: Password help
Hmm, how long ago did you change your password. It may take some time to filter through (guess)
As for Thunderbird, I use it with ntl email no probs - though I still have to use a browser for GMail and Hotmail. You will need to configure it but the only bits apart from username (usually firstname.lastname) and password that you will need are: POP Mail server: pop.ntlworld.com Outgoing server: smtp.ntlworld.com |
Re: Password help
You can use this site for intergrating webmail to Thunderbird. It works on most webmail including Gmail and Yahoo and Hotmail.

Re: Password help
Moved to NTL e-mail discussion
This problem (NTL email passwords) has happened before in various guises to various people, including myself. I think the only real way to sort it is to get NTL to change it. |
