provisioning logon using router

Hi guys n' gals

i've been happily using a wired (sitecom) router for a year now with a STB. when i got my new samsung box i had problems registering on the ntl provisioning logon page, i kept getting redirected to the page even after i had registered. Luckily the very helpful engineer who installed the box helped me solve the problem. i *think* he manually released and renewed the ip addy (not sure as i'm not very well up on this sort of stuff :dunce: ). months later when i "officially" went from 1 MB to 2 MB i had the same problem. This time i had to rely on the help line. the guy had me going to bbc.com (which i couldnt access) and eventually got me to uninstall then reinstall the network card, which seemed to work.

My question is, are there any extra steps needed when registering when using a router i.e.

anything more than rebooting the pc and stb. any illumination would be very gratefully recieved.

Thanks :)

Re: provisioning logon using router

In the past when I've registered a router with a STB, I've done this:

1. Turn everything off.
2. Connect everything together.
3. Turn on the STB and wait for the light to stablise.
4. Turn on the router and wait for everything to settle down.
5. Turn on a PC (doesn't matter as long as it's connected to the router).
6. Try and visit ANY web page, it should direct you to the provisioning page, otherwise, check that you don't have a proxy specified, try http://start.ntl, http://autoreg.autoregister.net and all of the other useful suspects.
7. Create a name for the Router, once the new profile has been created, turn everything off once more, repeat steps 1-5 and you SHOULD have a working Internet connection.

Thanks for the reply Zeph, its not registering the router thats been the problem but subsequent changes in hardware (new stb) and strangely the recent speed hike of 1 MB to 2 MB also required re-registering. I've always sorted it in the end but i just wondered if i was missing a step out. :)
