SNMP - traffic stats

Can i use SNMP to get traffic stats off my ADSL router? if so what software do i need to run on the pc to use SNMP on the router?

What other data can i pull from the router using SNMP, is it possible to see incoming/outgoing connections as they are being made?

Its a d-link DSL-G624T and has an option in the admin pages to enable SNMP so i know it supports it but im unsure as of how to make use of this feature
