Wireless NTL connection help please

Hi there,

I'm trying to set up a wireless NTL connection for my brother-in-law.

Using a safecom router and he connects to the internet through his set top box. Have finally managed to get the router to obtain DHCP info from the set top box, but I am anable to browse the internet (either wirelessly or over ehternet when connected through the router).

Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Many thanks

Dan

:welcome: to Cable Forum :tu:

Presumably when you connected the router to the STB you had powered off the STB first.

Have you registered the router with ntl's servers? the router will be seen as a new computer on that STB. When first connecting you should get taken to the registration page to put in the details given to the user when they first applied for broadband - there should be a letter somewhere with a password. If the browser doesn't redirect automatically try typing "start.ntl"

Ah ah!!

Yes i powered off the STB first etc.

No i wasnt faced with the registration page. Will try the 'start.ntl' bit now.

Thanks for the super quick response :D

typing 'start.ntl' has the same result as everything else when i try to browse. Server cant be found message!

Also make sure that the Ethernet from the STB is plugged into the WAN or Internet port and not into a switch on the port (1,2,3,4,etc)

Re: Wireless NTL connection help please

ip - 10.211.245.xxx
sm - 255.255.255.0
gw - 10.211.254.1
dhcp - 10.211.254.1

DNS1 - 194.168.4.100
DNS2 - 10.211.245.254
(this is from the pc connected throught the router)

However just hooked everything back up the old way - STB connected straight to pc, done the necessary power cycles and i get no page when i type 'start.ntl' when connected this way as well??? Is this right???

hmm, we need to ensure you can actually get an internet connection then. Forget the router for a moment and get it working with the PC to STB direct. Everything on the PCs connection should be auto i.e the network IP and DNS, and also your bnrowser's settings to autodetect connection. Only once you have this all set correctly at auto, and have a connection should you then try getting the router going and again that all should be set to auto detect stuff from the STB (do a factory reset on the router if in doubt)

OK. well everything works fine (except 'start.ntl') when connected STB to PC (thats how im posting on here). Just reset router now so will start again.

Fingers crossed

Right - that worked. Reset router, connected again and got transfered to the NTL page. However just locked out his PID number as he wasnt sure the password and cant find a bit of paper with it on - only the PID. Need to call cust. services now but that can wait till tomorrow.

Thanks for everyones help/suggestions. Glad i found this forum
