2 room telewest

Right ive read a few of the threads on here but I'm just wanting to get people's viewpoint on this.

Basically I'm going to run a cable from the rf out of the main telewest box in the front room to the back room so I can watch the same as whats on in the front room in the back room. At the same time I want to be able to change the channel on Telewest in the front room from the back room. After checking out letsautomate it appears that I need a universal learning remote as well as the red eye translator which is going to set me back about 50 quid. After speaking with a guy from letsautomate he also mentioned that its quite hit and miss

Is this the best and cheapest way to do it and have many had a successful setup running for a while?

Or could I position mirrors in doorways etc ;) ?

For the remote, easiest thing to do is to ring TW and see if they can sell you one, also have a check around on eBay for the REMOTES (theyre often specific to the type of box) and yes you will probably need a red eye, but again this probably depends on the type of box Telewest have given ou.

Ive got one of the Pace 1000 boxes, about 4 years old I think and very slow!

A new remote is not really the problem as its unlikely I'll be in one room and someone else in the other wanting to use the remote simultaneously. Come to think of it I've got a spare remote anyway.

Main thing was are these red eyes actually a decent, reliable option?

As good as youre going to get really, I think in the case of the Pace 1000 you WILL need an IRDA compatible remote extender such as the redeye.

Ok cheers. And a new remote by the looks of the site, well a learning remote anyways.

50 quid ish to get remote working in both rooms...hmmmm, a freeview box might be a cheaper alternative!

Cheers mate

I use a hardwired solution using a modified Telewest remote control.

Basically I opened up the remote and removed one of the two LEDs and soldered in a jackplug socket. I made up a cable with a jackplug at the bedroom end ( i.e. the end without the STB) and an LED at the other end which comes through the wall at a suitable point in the living room where it can be pointed at the STB.

As the remote still has one LED it can still be used as a backup (i.e. when the living room remote has gone walkabout) just by unplugging from the cable.

Forgot to mention I have a Pace 1010T STB and I bought the remote from Telewest (about £10) at the time I went digital four or five years ago ( I had a similar setup for the analogue box but was able to use a cheapo generic remote - such is progress! )

There is someone selling PACE 1000/2000 remotes on ebay for £2.99 + 2.99 p&p at the moment

I did the same as the OP, taking the feed from RF out and putting it into a multiroom amp to feed other areas. Not too bothered about changing channels but the picture is rubbish, any ideas appreciated.
regards Mick

Ditched the idea in the end but my mate has the rf out to another tv in a mates house and there was buzzing on the channel.

Read somewhere on here about changing the rf channel but cant find it again now!
