Graphics Card Upgrade
Hey CF, im looking for a new graphics card for xmas and wondered what i could get from ATI. I havent a clue about the compatibility and the psu that my PC has (i have looked in Everest). But my motherboard is an MS MSI 7091. If someone could come back with gfx card suggestions i would be grateful. At current i have the X600 256MB and am looking to upgrade to a 512MB card.
EDIT: My PC is an Advent T9306 |
Re: Graphics Card Upgrade
AGP?? I think ati are releasing an x1950 agp card ;)
yes they are ready for christmas http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal...ics_Cards.html if its pci e then the x1800xt can be got for a bargain http://msicomputer.co.uk/Products.as...3658&cat_id=77 is this your board |
Re: Graphics Card Upgrade
mobo is AGP so the X1950 could give you enough bang for your dosh.

Re: Graphics Card Upgrade
Motherboard is the same as in my Medion - PCI-E graphics slot.
The PSU may lack a PCI-E power feed, or lack the npower and connectors to use a molex to PCI-E feed - in which case, a meatier PSU would be needed for any card dependent on a power cable - I think X1600 models may not need them, but that would not be a huge upgrade, though significantly up on an X600. If you want real power, I think you are going to have to go to the X1900 series and a new PSU. The X850XT is also wotrth a look, a pretty potent member of the "pre-X1k" series, but that means it's PS2.0 and not PS3.0, and most of the driver development is now on the "X1k" series. http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/111193/rb/22860263458 This MIGHT be a drop-in replacement, can't tell if it has a PCI-E power feed though, but pretty sure an X1600 can work without. This is 512MB, MIDRANGE, X1k series, if you want more, then it's an X1900/1950 model and almost certainly a new PSU. |

here is my mobo: Motherboard Details

Re: Graphics Card Upgrade
x1600XT's work without an extra power connector. I'm using one, and so is a friend :)

Re: Graphics Card Upgrade
As do 7600GTs

Re: Graphics Card Upgrade
i would leave all the mid spec cards alone and get the x1800xt if your in the 100 to 150 mkt if you in the 150 to 250 mkt then wait and buy in the sales cuz the x1900xtx cards prices will plummet once the R600 based cards are launched
if you want to try your psu just buy a molex splitter and a molex to 6 pin pci e adapter |

Re: Graphics Card Upgrade
I cant see a question in my post????
my mate bought one for £135 quid might have been the 256 but you will hardly notice that Dont be fooled into thinking a lesser cored card with more ram will be better it wont. |
Re: Graphics Card Upgrade
ahh ok but i said that i wanted a 512 card, you probably already knew that anyway :)

Re: Graphics Card Upgrade
you have given us no idea of price so I gave you an idea of price. If your only having £150 on it then you buy a x1650xt with 512 meg of ram your losing 4 pipes and a better core all for the sake of that 256 meg of ram and thats just nuts. However if your having more spent then my advice is sound.
The advice I give on this forum is what I think is correct. I dont expect everyone to like what I say but if I feel your making a mistake I will tell you I never know you might just like it |
Re: Graphics Card Upgrade
Ill discuss it with my dad about what he's gonna spend and get back to you. :)
