I just used the newsgroups for the first time today... not quite as straight-forward as I expected :dozey: to try to get this issue I have with online banking resolved.

It seems to take approx 1 hour for posted messages to appear - judging by the sent time compared to when I see them. Is this normal? Or am I doing something wrong?

what news servers? do you mean posts you have made? population can take a while but are normally quite quick on premium servers

erm.... I found the problem... I think I'm meant to be using "text" rather than "news"... whilst I was waiting I found someone made a post on there about that issue.

I must admit I have never ventured into news groups it is something I will have to try one day

Must say PotOfGold is a bright lass to have been able to get up n running with NNTP news so quickly.

Once your happy have fun with downloading binaries :)

Use newsbin pro or other binary reader and subscribe to alt.binaries of your choice

or use newsbin pro and make life easy for yourself and pay a quid a month for newzbin.com ;)

My b/f has used the newsgroups for a long time for d/l "binaries" - but he uses Grabbit and/or NewsLeecher... I just leave him to it tho and just pick out anything of interest when he refreshes. I never actually asked how it works (and I don't think he ever posted as he sounded confused when I asked him).

The help FAQ was quite straightforward and once I'd realised that "text" was the way to go it was much quicker - being a girl I do tend to "read the manual" first... or at least speedread :angel:
