Long start up time
Hello to all,
I've just received delivery of my new PC from my insurance company. The problem now is that it takes between 10-15 min to start up. All that's on screen during this time is the INTEL logo, some options at the bottom of the screen, I.E. press Del or F1 to go to set up etc. Problem is the keyboard does not work during this time. After 10-15min XP Media Centre starts up fine and I've no issues but each time i need to restart it takes 10-15min. PC is an Advent T9307 Intel dual Core 2 Duo 1.8 1GB DDR2 Mem 320GB Hard drive LG multi burner Liteon Multi burner Radeon X1650 256 Any Ideas???????? |
Re: Long start up time
Fone Advent it does not seem to be working correctly if you cant access bios for example. In wondows you can do the normal ie msconfig etc but you should be able to use the keyboard after post

Re: Long start up time
Thank's for the quick reply zinglebarb. Some info to add. After the 10-15min I can access the Bios and set up menu's. Is there anything in the Bios that I can look at to tell me the issue??

Re: Long start up time
You could try finding an option for Quick POST. But in your case it's probably already on and won't make any difference.

Re: Long start up time
10-15 minutes to post? can you turn off any full screen bobbins to see whats making it hang? Im guessing the bios is struggling to find the hard drive and again its just a guess this is whats slowing it down. Even with quick boot off 15 minutes to post is just wrong lol

Re: Long start up time
what should the Bios be displaying to find the hard drive first?
|
Re: Long start up time
There should be an option for full screen logo.Turn that up so you can see yoru post messages:)

Re: Long start up time
Cheers, I'll give that a try tonight. During the 10-15min the DVD drives both open and close when pressed so I know they are working is this any help?

Re: Long start up time

Re: Long start up time
As i said I'll see what happens tonight. Thank's for the help so far. If things don't improve I'll be back.

Re: Long start up time
Just wanted to update you all on my problem, it turns out it was my external HDD causing the slow startup, after unplugging it the system was fine.
Thank's for everyones input. |
Re: Long start up time
Told you it was a hard drive didnt I just didnt know you had an external one attached lol.You can turn off the usb support in bios this should avoid this in the future
|
Re: Long start up time
How do I go about doing that??
|
Re: Long start up time
you need to just find the option it should be obvious which is for usb pre windows one to change is boot order make sure its looking for your main hard dsk first ,just be careful not to disable usb full stop

Re: Long start up time
Its an option thats "usually" marked as
"USB Legacy Support" Turn that off and it wont try to access your hard drive at boot. |
