Help required installing linux

Does anyone have experience installing either Suse 10.1 or Ubuntu 6.06 on an HP Pavilion T3510 with an ATI Xpress 300 graphics chip?
It seems that the XServer does not recognise the graphics card.
Also, is there any way of adjusting the amount of RAM that the chip shares with the system?

Replies will be much appreciated.

Well it should boot up with standard SVGA graphics to begin with, then just go and download and install the driver from ATI's website.

Yeah I had a right time getting my broadcom wireless chip working on my laptop and when it did work I had more fun getting wpa_supplicant to work. Now having big problems with Fedora 6 and my onboard marvell gigabit ethernet. Gave up and bought a PCI-E card instead. As fo Suse 10.1 that ran fine on the default install on my x600 laptop graphics.
