IE6 & IE7 on 1 machine?

is it possible to have both IE 6 & & on the same machine. As i want to test some of my web-design layout on both versions.

I will be very surprised if you could have both as ie is integral to XP, it is much more than a browser

AFAIK, you can't. The only way you can do it is use VMware or Virtual PC to create a Virtual PC, and install XP on that. AFAIK, you can download VMWare for free from http://www.vmware.com

If it is possible it wont be for the faint hearted and I personally mess with IE....

Think of IE as being integral to the Windows OS you mess with that you mess the whole OS....

I was wondering about you web guys, funkycable, and how you'd design for both versions. Only way I can see is dual boot.

If I had to, then I'd use a different VMWare image, like Stuart says. More convenient than having to reboot completely, plus you can compare browsers side-by-side in real-time.

Re: IE6 & IE7 on 1 machine?

the stand alone only works with rc1 so thats not a lot of use is it?
The full version of ie7 also installs as a windows componant not the same way as the beta versions so ill be surprised if the first way works also. However ill happily admit im wrong if i am :)
My way involves copying ie6 from a machine (whole folder) to ie7 running machine and just running it from the folder. Its still ie7 but uses the ie6 shell etc dunno if thats any use but hey ho lol lol
