validation
when i bought my pc from currys it was a refurbished one. after i had gone through setting it up and calling it a name, setting up my internet connection a box came up saying i had to registar or validate my xp copy which went fine.
after buying my son a brand new advent laptop 2 weeks ago, going through the same setup stages and conecting to the internet i have never been asked or can find anything to validate or registar his copy of xp!! is this right? dosent sound good to me, although windows has been downloading updates, about 70 i think and im sure one of those was that genuine advantage tool. nothings ever come up about validating or illegal copy, is there a way i can check? or after a couple of weeks do you think i wont recieve anymore updates? thanks from jane |
Re: validation
Dont worry this is typical for bundled software afterall correct me if I am wrong but he didnt get an original windows xp disc did he ? Most likely he's got a system recovery cd.
Since the software is tied into that laptop specifically he cant take that cd and install that version of windows XP on say another PC and hence microsoft doesnt care about registration.... Registration really is for Microsofts benefit not ours. If you're reallt worried check your version of windows here : http://www.microsoft.com/resources/h...s/default.mspx |

Re: validation
also so long as you have a registration number sticker somewhere on the laptop all is fine. you may even be able to reinstall using another copy of xp with your number

Re: validation
as long as its the same flavour. I got hold of a cd yesterday thats 9 versions of xp in one and can install any flavour and create any flavour as a single iso all on one cd.Reason I looked for this is I tried to help someone out the other day with xp home oem and it was fake :( but now I have the lot lol lol

Re: validation
Basically the system manufacturers activate it for you, at the factory where it was built, hence as others have said its the reason why you son doesnt get asked to validate his copy of Windows. :)
