Graphics cooling
Another opportunity for people to earn rep! :)
I'm looking for ways to cool my graphics card - AGP interface, PNY Geforce 6600. It's not especially loud to begin with, but as the rest of my PC is quiet (Zalman massive jobbo HSF on the CPU, 12cm PSU fan, 2 ultra quiet 8cm case fans, passive Northbridge) then it's something that I notice, the hum isn't exactly consistent and can be quite distracting  I'd prefer passive cooling if possible - it's totally silent then, and one less fan to clean out when I attack the insides with compressed air! Something that's not gonna take about a day to fit and also not too expensive (so not water cooling unfortunately). Any suggestions gratefully received and most likely (pending the need to slut it around a bit) will be rewarded with green rep :) |
Re: Graphics cooling
Zalman Fatal1ty fs v7 but read the warning http://www.zalman.co.kr/eng/product/...x=173&code=013 I wouldnt trust passive cooling unless you screw a slow spinning 80mm fan to it :)

Re: Graphics cooling
I would stick a pci exhaust in the slot closest to the gfx card :)
But then again thats another fan, you could allways drill a nice pattern of holes in the top :disturbd: |
Re: Graphics cooling
I've seen it - looks interesting hanging off the edge lol! Will have to look at the card in more detail next time I do any spring cleaning (and the CPU HSF still hasn't been remounted and probably should be!).
I usually keep the next PCI slot free anyway :) Cheers anyway mate :) ---------- Post added at 23:52 ---------- Previous post was at 23:52 ---------- Quote:

Re: Graphics cooling
what use would an exhaust fan under a passive cooler be? to extract air there has to be air there and if theres nothing blowing over the heatsink then the exhaust will just inefficiently pull air out of the case. There should already be an exhaust next to the IO plate so a small one there imo wouldnt help much more than blowing kisses at the gfx lol lol

Re: Graphics cooling
Get yourself some cooking oil... you know you want to.
http://www.ourmedia.org/node/27530 (actually, mineral oil is better cause it won't stink whereas vegetable oil will start to go a bit rancid after a few weeks ) |
