Linksys WRT54G port forwarding problem
 

Hi all,
After recommendations on this forum I bought the above to replace my useless Netgear WGT634U...
It took me a little while to set it all up but something is seriously wrong...
I have a webcam connected to a D-Link ethernet bridge which wirelessly connects to the router.
I have the webcam on port forward so that I can access it through the web as a http address (forwarding on port 80)
I added this to the router and set the webcam IP as static (DHCP enabled).
Then, I went to the Yahoo home page and it kept the domain address partly in the URL bar but redirected to my webcam...
This happened on any internet address...
For example, I type in http://192.168.1.3 and the address changes to have /view/view.html or something at the end...
Now if I try www.bbc.co.uk for example it changes to have /view/view.html at the end?!
It seems port forwarding is majorly screwed up??!
Any ideas what's going wrong?
I have the latest firmware and it is a WRGT54G V2.0

Any thoughts anyone?

Can you change the port number for the webcam's http server? eg to port 8088.
Sounds like all port 80 traffic is being redirected to the device.
Maybe you could copy the Port Forward entry from the WRT54G admin page into here.

Strange, i posted a reply yesterday and it didn't appear. Cheers for the reply. I have the router utility on 8080 generally. One odd thing though, this only seemed to be an issue on the 2 machines with netgear adaptors! The laptop with built in wireless seemed fine. I also found port forwarding instructions which said to enable anonymous internet requests? That makes sense for inbound traffic...

I still haven't managed to solve this:( I have unticked it so it's disabled, changed the port number and even deleted it from the port forwarding list and static ip list. I was pleased to find linksys tech support was an 0800 number but then got through to some bloke with a strong accent i had difficulty understanding. He said to change to port 1024 in forwarding and on the webcam?

Sorry, I missed yesterday's reply.

To backtrack - with no port forwarding all works fine?
If you forward inbound port 80 to a static IP your Netgear clients have their outbound http (80) redirected to the static IP?
What is the make of the webcam ? Does it allow you to listen on a port other than 80? (The reference to 1024 is probably 'anything above 1024' as generally speaking those ports are less likely to be used)

It's an axis 2100 webcam. I can change the port on that but it's a last resort really. Odd as i never had this with the netgear router. I've disabled port 80 forwarding on the router and deleted the entry for it, yet it's still doing it. It only happened since i added the webcam to the network. When i added the port forward info all was fine now the webcam seems to attract all outgoing port80reqs

One further thing to add. I set the router config to https. When i tried to access http://192.168.1.1 it gives page cannot be displayed. If i use https it allows me to access it. I haven't tried reverting it back to being just http in case i can't access it at all and have to factory reset the thing.

I wonder if the computers have somehow got a default route set to the static IP.
On one of the troubled PC's try doing the following from DOS ('Start', 'Run', "CMD"):
route print
nslookup
tracert www.bbc.co.uk
Post the results of those.

That would possibly be expected - if you've set it to only allow https management it isn't going to forward the unaware http user to the https page!

Hmm. I've switched back to the linksys router and all was ok. I set it to port 80 forwarding and still ok. One thing that still remains the same is that i have removed the static ip listing on the router. I have left dhcp enabled on the router but all my network devices have static ips. The dhcp is on just in case needed.
