XP MCE \ iR & Samsung STB
Been Googling like crazy this afternoon to resolve this issue and I am desperately hoping that someone may have figured a work around on this one.
Just got a new comp with Media Center installed. Quite impressive with its slide show, music player etc. Everything centralised and quite neat. Trying to configure the Live TV has turned out to be a dog. There seems to be a Non IR-DA and IR-DA compatibilty issue. The MCE blaster just refuses to work with the NTL Samsung blaster. What i am left with now is a coaxial from the STB to the Hauppage input giving me a picture of dubious quality and if I want to change channel then I have trot downstairs and manually change the TV channel, which isn't really what i wanted. As regards analogue, I live in an area with pretty poor reception anyway and NTL is the only TV input piped into this house so short of forking out for an external\indoor aerial with Db gain, I am pretty much stuffed. Below are a few links to where I have been this day. http://www.redremote.co.uk/mce.html http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/arc...hp?t-3929.html http://www.avforums.com/forums/archi.../t-206376.html http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...d.php?t=473443 http://www.salloway.org.uk/MediaCenter/2004/harmony.htm http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/sh...php?p=34136000 Thanx for reading |
Re: XP MCE \ iR & Samsung STB
hi :welcome:
I'm sorry, I have no knowledge of MCE, but hopefully this 'bump' will keep your post visible until someone who does, happens by. :) |
Re: XP MCE \ iR & Samsung STB
LOL,,, cheers Homealone! Very considerate. Who knows I may even give NTL a ring tomorrow and ask their *experts* if they have a solution.
Erm,....then again, perhaps not. At the minute it's on the backburner to be considered a work in progress. Guess I have become another sucker dragged into compatibilty issues. It's not exactly mission critical but now it is starting to bug me. ;) |

Afaik the Samsung does not use IRDA like some of the Pace boxes, so the failure of the MCE blaster to pick up input from the NTL remote may be due to not getting the correct code programmed in the NTL sender??? I'm surprised you don't get a decent picture, my ATI TV card gets a fairly good one from my Samsung box - but I have composite, as well as RF inputs from the stb - if the 'hopog' has composite inputs, you may gain from considering a scart to composite converter??? :) |
Re: XP MCE \ iR & Samsung STB
Hi,
I use GBPVR with a Redeye serial (see http://www.redremote.co.uk/serial/) and this works a treat! |
Re: XP MCE \ iR & Samsung STB
Thanx to all for replying.
I am interested in the RedEye and might just give that a try. It looks good to go. Thanx once again to all. |

Wayzel
have a browse of the forums on thegreenbutton.org http://thegreenbutton.org/forums/default.aspx It's a site dedicated to MCE users but it's (obviously) heavily biased in favour of American users but there is quite a bit of UK based posting too. I was browsing it this morning and was reading through some threads discussing problems with MCE and ntl set top boxes (particularly Samsung ones). Good luck |
Re: XP MCE \ iR & Samsung STB
Cheers jem,
just been having a look myself and found out a great deal of good info. There are a few people out there with similiar issues and I will attempt to have a dabble at a few and if it's a no-no, then I'll go RedEye...sod the expense! Thanx again and regards w |
Re: XP MCE \ iR & Samsung STB
Hiya, I used to use a Redeye with my Pace box and it worked superbly, I piped the signal from my dvd recorder upstairs into my bedroom and using ir extenders and the redeye was a great setup along with my Pronto but afaik the Samsung boxes are not irda.
I would recomend a redeye though. Hope this helps! |
