Any ideas

I am having to restart the router alot as my pc and the other pc in the house lose connection.

Restarting the computers gives us the error that no connection and the repair option cannot renew the ip

Only a restart of a router works

Here is the modem stats

Modulation: G.992.5 Annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,334 / 18,768
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [KB/MB]: 249.00 / 1.26
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 17.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.5 / 18.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 7.5 / 5.0

Any ideas?

Re: Any ideas

It might help if we knew what the router is. It is unlikely the state of the cable modem has anything to do with the dhcp server in the router. What are the PC's doing at the time - torrents, gaming?

Err, we would need to know the make and model of the router, how it is connected to the Internet (ADSL/Cable) and possibly which ISP as well.

No need to get uppity. People choose their usernames for all kinds of reasons.

If you want technical help from a forum, you have nothing to gain by assuming anyone will guess anything. Don't hold back the info, post it all and you may find someone can help.

Not necessarily. I personally thought you were talking about ADSL, but Aragorn (a technically savvy member) apparently did not. Hence my request for clarification. As for your ID. Well, your ID could mean anything. It could have meant you were on NTL, but waiting to move to Be for instance..

I'm not that familiar with ADSL (1, 2 or 2+), so could be wrong, but is the Line OK?

Re: Any ideas

You could narrow down the problem by disconnecting the ADSL line and trying to get a local IP address on your PC's - that would prove whether the DHCP server is reliant on an ADSL connection (I would hope not). If the router can normally handout a dhcp address without an ADSL connection it would suggest there is a problem with the firmware on the router, or it's hanging. Is the router hot when the connection drops & is there decent airflow?

HTH

For the record, I too am more familiar with NTL CM's than ADSL.

Router has a very good air flow. But it seems to be better now
