Data transfer from PC to PC
 

sorry lads....
more questions from me.
I would like to know whats the easiest wat of moving data from 1 PC to another.
My old desktop has cd-r, ethernet, modem and usb.
My lappy has got firewire, ethernet, usb, dvd-r, card readerand modem.
So far i have been using a 1 gb memo stick to do the transfers. But thats taking me time.
Is there an easier way to connect both PCs and using existing accessories insted of buyin anyth?

If you had a crossover cable, it'd be a piece of cake... even if you don't have one, they only cost a couple of quid at the very most (unless you're being ripped off). Plug one end in PC1 and the other end in PC2, and that's pretty much all there is to it.

Ethernet. Use a crossover cable and share the hard drive out to eachother, that way you can just copy over Ethernet, usually at 100mbps. Should save you some time, but be aware some folders are restricted :(

what files are you transfering? (previous answer of mine was wrong cuz i didnt read properly lol)

Programs files might not work if copied over windows cant really be replaced by copying over it just wont work.So its just saved data and files your moving?

Not true : You should learn windows a bit more m8 :erm:

You can Export the registry and ini references and update the key values before re-importing them onto a new disk or machine. Partition Magic even can do it.

Or you can do it yourself manually if you're really brave enough - did mine last with windows perl and cygwin as I didn't want to trust any old windows app.

new disk for an existing machine but whats the chances there gonna work on this laptop m8

I've done it on a laptop used partition magic and I was suprised it actually worked....

I Basicalled deleted a partion and merged everything into one : The apps were mostly stored on part2 but partition magic managed to update registry and ini files and the apps actually worked.

Its much more easier if you were to move the apps to a new disk and update the references accordingly it's also a lot safer than working with a live disk.

I want to transfer my saved files-music, pictures, documents, copy paste my favorites n thts abt it.
I have copies of programmes so that shouldnt b a prob.

I got a dumb question :

Can the PC and Laptop be connected to the internet simultaneously ?

Are they both going through a router ? If so then why not just transfer your data over your local LAN ?

They are connected to the internet through the router. And can be used simultaneously.
Uhhh...wud u mind xplainin how i can proceed by using d Lan?

right click the drive you want to share click sharing and security.Click yes you understand.There will be an option that says something like just enable file sharing at this point click that. Then tick share this folder on an network and if you wish tick the second box allow netowrk users to change files.Let it do its thing then click network places and you shoudl see the drive simply copy and paste over what you need.Once done simply untick the share box
