02 to scrap roaming charges in europe
to be actioned in spain with the rest of europe being brought in to line next year, O2 is set to scrap incoming call charges and charge callers 25p to call from europe whilst you are abroad, the move comes after EU probes in to networks handling of call charges to customers making and recieving calls abroad, instead a £5 monthly fee will be charged to take advantage of the offer.

Better, but still not enough. the EU want the charges scrapping completly.
Lets hope that's what we get in the end. :) |

No, probably not. To be honest this will make them more money than it wil save us.

Cop out by O2 and to be honest they aren't losing anything from it, all charges should be scrapped as they are nothing more than blatant profiteering by the networks.

Re: 02 to scrap roaming charges in europe
I think I can understand the £5 charge (bear in mind that if you're only going on holiday for a couple of weeks, you can add the roaming charge for one month, then have it taken off), as long as the charge covers other networks.
What I am still struggling with is the concept of why I should pay that for taking calls on the o2 network abroad. International wholesale prices are so cheap, I cannot see (unless there is some sort of anti-competitive rule) why I would be required to pay for something which is as cheap to carry as a call from Lands End to John O' Groats (probably cheaper thinking about it!) |
