Set top box ethernet connection

I noticed today that my NTL set top box has an ethernet port on it - can anyone tell me what it's used for as I have nothing plugged into it.

Cheers

Re: Set top box ethernet connection

Some platforms use the built in Cable modem on the STB for Internet Connection (it has to be activated by NTL) But I beleive they're trying to move away from using it now as it does not support high speeds reliably.

The ethernet port enables customers in some areas to receive a Broadband Connection
