KVM probs

Hi peeps, I've got one of http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_Id=177448 the only trouble is that when I try and switch from my XP pro machine to my Win 2000 machine nothing happens but when I try it the other way round it's fine, I've done the usual disabling the firewall etc but to no avail. Anyone come across this before:confused:

Nothing to do with networking so your firewall wouldnt be having an affect.

I've had a similar problem with a KVM in the past. What *seemed" to work was to power the machines in a particular order. One way it worked, the other way caused problems when switching.

I don't know why this happened, and the work-around appeared to overcome the issue, so I never bothered to look further.

Power off everything. Disconnect every cable. Attach all the cables again. Power on everything.

Hire a Peruvian dwarf to run round the back of your PC and unplug your cables and switch them over to the other box whenever you want to use the other one. They're pretty cheap to buy, and don't cost much to keep.

Other than that, afraid I've got no idea, mate.

It could be a slightly faulty cable, try switching the cables around and see if the problem reverses itself.

I used to have an older version. It had a button on the connection unit to switch which box it was looking for a keypress from. Can't really tell from the Belkin picture if that version's got one or not. If it has, press it to select the PC you want it to recognise...

I used to own the other version of this, the one without the audio cables. Worked fine with every machine I owned asside from one, This machine had the exact same problem you are describing. Never did solve it, I just put it down to an issue with power output from the keyboard socket.
