NTL with ASUS WL-520 G router
Hi all,
I am currently trying to set up the network in my friends house. I am currently with NTL on a 1mb line. (Nothing too flash i know) They have purchased a ASUS WL-520G router so that they can distribute the connection around the house. When i connect the NTL modem to their computer directly, the internet works fine, however when i try to wire the connection through to the router so that they can all connect remotely i get nothing. On the status message i am recieving: Type: Automatic IP Status: Disconnected Reason: Lost IP from Server After a few searches i was advised to reboot the modem. I have done this. Then i was advised to reboot the modem, then the router then the computer. I have also done this to no avail. It is rather frustrating that when connected to the computer directly it is fine, but when connected to the router nothing happens. If anyone could advise on this i'll be eternally grateful, as i said i wouldn't go home till i have fixed their internet!!! lol Thanks, David Stark |
Re: NTL with ASUS WL-520 G router
you need to:
disconnect the power from the cable modem connect the modem up to the router power on the cable modem. this will register the new mac address that the router has with the cable modem and all should be well... |

(PS, i am currently using a neighbours wireless connection to be able to use the interner) Could there be any other reason why this would happen?? |
Re: NTL with ASUS WL-520 G router
hmmm...not sure, usually once the mac address is registered with the cable modem (which is the reason for rebooting the modem), it should be able to pick up an IP address.
I presume that (after having had a quick look though the manual) that you have set the router up for a dynamic address..? Also when you connect the PC to the router what IP address does it pick up? |
