This device can perform faster if you connect it to a hi-speed ...
I have recently purchased a 320gb external USB driver (Toshiba) which when I plug it into any of the following:
DELL 5150 Dimension DELL XPS Laptop HP t190.uk All report "This USB device can perform faster if you connect it to a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Port" I am running either XP Media Centre or Professional all machines All SP2 All fully patched and up to date I've tried multiple cables although I assume the one that came with the unit would be USB2 compliant Any ideas before I return the drive for a refund? |
Re: This device can perform faster if you connect it to a hi-speed ...
Have you tried connecting it to different USB ports?
|
Re: This device can perform faster if you connect it to a hi-speed ...
I take it your system actually has USB 2.0 ports ?
That is why it is saying that message. You would get slightly faster speeds if it was connected to a USB 2.0 port on your computer. |

Chipset drivers maybe ?
Right click my computer > prop > hardware > device manager Do u see the USB2 ports there ? Maybe download the latest drivers Whats the model no of the drive u just bought. DOH : Is the power pluged into your USB drive ? It will need power |

Re: This device can perform faster if you connect it to a hi-speed ...
Another example of boneheaded Windows: the other day I plugged a USB thumbdrive into my friend's laptop, to be told "This device can perform faster..."
I clicked next or whatever, only to be told "There are no USB2.0 ports on this computer". Nice one, Microsoft  |

Yes I have tried different ports and computers
Computer reports Enhanced and USB2 ports available (Intel(R) 82801GB USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 27CC) Drive Model is Toshiba 320gb external usb PX1267E-1G32 Yes it has external power Have tried to update drivers but not check Intel site directly for update mine is dated 19-01-2005 v7.0.0.1014 So I'll check this Linux is a no no unfortunately, need to many windows apps ... seperate debate! |
Re: This device can perform faster if you connect it to a hi-speed ...
tricky, does it say under USB Controllers something like "standard enhanced PCI to USB host controller"? IF so that are the standard mickysoft usb drivers and those are still usb1.
rightclick it and select "Update driver", then select "install from list.....", then select "dont search......" and with a bit of luck you'll have there the USB 2.0 drivers for the chipset you use. |

Re: This device can perform faster if you connect it to a hi-speed ...
sounds like a problem with the drive...
|
Re: This device can perform faster if you connect it to a hi-speed ...
I'm not sure if some devices might have problems using an usb hub?
|
Re: This device can perform faster if you connect it to a hi-speed ...
Sounds like his hub isn't up to full USB spec. Plug the drive directly into the onboard usb connectors and see if you get the same message.

Re: This device can perform faster if you connect it to a hi-speed ...
I have no control over the hub thingy - This is how my PC handles the onboard USB ports 5 rears and 2 on front. I've not checked but I believe that my other machines also use the same concept. And before anyone asks I've removed all other USB devices to check it wasn't a bandwidth issue
