Avoid BitTorrent Traffic Shaping

I've noticed now using my BitTorrent client uTorrent i've been getting poor speeds in the evening, not really going anything above 100KB/s - now is there anything i can do to avoid it, someone told me in uTorrent settings to select
"Forced" under "Protocol Encryption" Outgoing

It can't be this easy can it?

Problem is that the shaping software  can be made to kick in if it see's a large amount of connection being opened on a certain port or to slow down anything that is NOT identifiable.

To be honest i dont think the port matters. I stopped using bittorent 2 years ago and only use Newsgroups now.

Are you sure you are being effected by traffic shaping and that you havent just misconfigured your client? I never get less then 400KB/s at the moment unless the total available bandwidth is less than that.

Its only been happening since like last 2/3 weeks ....

Even right now that torrent is giving out speeds of 22MB/s and im only getting 170KB/s or less - they must be traffic shaping 24/7 in my area.

I don't normally notice the speed as I leave them to run in the background while I'm in bed - also, like Bill, I normally use newsgroups, only switching to torrents for low priority stuff, or files not yet on the newsgroups.

Hey people,

How are you using newsgroup's for file downloads instead of bittorrent's??
I'm new to this. Any help would be great.

Cheers

This works with so called 'binary' newsgroups, basically the file is broken up & encoded as several smaller 'parts', which are uploaded to the server. People wanting to download the file, need to decode & recombine the parts to reconstruct the original.

It can get a little complicated, as different encoding protocols exist, but usually, using a decent newsgroup client program will do a lot of the hard work, for you.
