PCMCIA USB Question

Hi,
I have just purchased a PCMCIA 4 port USB hub, the thing is it comes with a cable, one end looks like a small power cable that plugs into the hub and the other is a USB A male. Why would you use this cable? if it's for plugging into your usb on your laptop to create a hub why bother with the PCMCIA bit.
Any ideas? Cheers.

I'd guess that it's so that you can use the hub on a PC that doesn't have a PCMCIA slot.

Re: PCMCIA USB Question

The cable probably is there to provide power. AFAIK, PCMCIA slots provide some power, but not a lot.

As for why use the PCMCIA slot? One simple answer is bandwidth. If you use a normal USB2 hub, you get 480Mbps shared amongst four devices (or however many devices are attached). PCMCIA provides greater bandwidth than USB2.

Of course, having never used the hub in question, I don't know if it will use the greater bandwidth.
