Help needed. Please.

Packard Bell i media 5053. Turned it on today and nothing happens past the black screen with PACKARD BELL on it and "Press F2 for BOIS, F12 for network boot" (or something like that) written at the bottom. All power is working and all cables fixed ok. The thing was working last night!

Can anyone suggest what/why this is?

Many thanks,

J.

Does it detect your hard drives? Or is the top half of the screen blank?

Try pressing Escape or Tab to see if you get the POST screen rather than the PB Logo

It's not detecting anything. Usually it goes straight to the Win XP welcome screen. I haven't pressed Esc or Tab on there own. Did try F8 and Alt Ctrl Delete, nothing happened.

Can you get into the BIOS? If so can you get to the part of it that lists/ detects the hard drives? Might be worth checking the cables on the drives but when you press the power button can you hear the drives spin up?

Memory, GFX card and processor seem Ok otherwise you wouldnt have hit the BIOS, my guess is the Hard Disk is having a fit.

As to what you can do about it....

Can you get into the BIOS and see if it detects it there as paul says?

Although normally it would say "Non System Disk" or similar..

Hmmmm.
