Email question...
I tried looking for an email section, but couldnt find one.
Basically Im just wondering if I could set my Samsung D500 up to receive my NTL mail. I have added the basics. (username and pass which I got from Outlook Express). put in smtp.ntlworld.com and pop.ntlworld.com, set my smtp port to 25 and my pop3 port to 110. Theres an APOP option that I can tick, but I dont know if I do or not. Bloody thing wont have it thou. Any advice is appreciated Ta :) [edit] forgot to mention, this is vodafone - pay as ya talk. |

Re: Email question...
I have no idea whether or not this can be done.
Certainly there would be an issues sending any email via ntl, as you have to be online direct to their smtp server. Unless you can dial into ntl i.e. a standard ntl dial up number normally used by landline based modems will accept your mobiles connection, you can't send that way. If the setup of the phone is anything like setup of other PCs say using Outlook Express, with such other PCs conected via the internet to ISPs other than ntl, you should be able to receive email from the ntl server. You'd need to get the syntax of your user account password and POP servers correct. AS far as I can tell the user name is everything before the @ntlworld bit of the address, passwords are of course case sensitive, and the incoming mail server is pop.ntlworld.com, port 110. I don't beleive there are any other secuirity settings needed, if outlook express settings are anything to go by. You might need to look at the size of emails being sent to you though - your pay as you go bill would become enormous  |

Turned out smtp.ntlworld.com was wrong for my phone, had to smtp.vizzavi.net for the outgoing email client. Now to sort out my MMS settings... :D Thnx again :) |
Re: Email question...
MMS Settings - see http://www.filesaveas.com/mms.html
Should help you out :) Did you get this phone through Vodafone? Or did you buy it unlocked? You could always phone Vodafone and ask them - I'm sure they can send the settings down in a message so they auto-setup your phone. The reason for having to use smtp.vizzavi.net instead of smtp.ntlworld.com is because Vizzavi is (or was) owned by Vodafone and you can only send through NTL's smtp server when using an NTL ip address (which you will not have on your mobile :)) |
